NACS in Europe: Mandated by 2028?

In North America, NACS (formerly the Tesla connector) is rapidly becoming the de facto standard. This prediction asks if the EU will mandate its adoption alongside the current CCS Type 2 plug before 2028.

Three-Phase Power Requirement

The strong 'No' vote is based on fundamental engineering differences. NACS, designed primarily for North American single-phase residential power, lacks native support for the 3-phase AC charging (up to 22 kW) common and often mandated for European residential and public chargers. The EU is fiercely protective of its own Type 2/CCS2 standard, which is functional, reliable, and supports 3-phase AC. There is virtually no regulatory or technical incentive for the EU to shift to the NACS connector design.
